Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has won an intense bidding war for an upcoming murder mystery action film that will star Jason Momoa (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom; Zack Snyder's Justice League) in the lead role.
The high-profile project hails from Eternals scribes Kaz and Ryan Firpo. Plot details remain under wraps, but it's being described internally as a "fun action murder mystery in the spirit of Knives Out meets The Lord of the Rings." With no director attached just yet, a production start date remains up in the air, but it should be one of the buzzier original projects on the market and will likely attract top-level talent.
Peter Safran is onboard as a producer. He's worked with Momoa on both 2018's Aquaman and next year's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. His producing credits also include some of the better received recent DC films, including Shazam!, The Suicide Squad, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
In addition to penning Chloe Zhao's Eternals, the Firpos also recently penned Justin Kurzel's Ruin, which will star Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad; Babylon) and Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard; Amsterdam). The film reportedly tells the tale of a nameless ex-Nazi captain who navigates the ruins of post-WWII Germany determined to atone for his crimes during the war by hunting down the surviving members of his former SS Death Squad.
