Ahead of tomorrow's trailer release, Lionsgate has shared the first teaser for Ballerina, the upcoming John Wick spinoff starring Academy Award-nominee Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro. Eve is a young assassin undergoing training with the Ruska Roma, the organization first introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
The official synopsis provides insight into where Ballerina fits within the broader John Wick universe, hinting at the role Keanu Reeves' iconic character, Baba Yaga, will play. According to the synopsis, "Set during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the film follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) as she begins her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma."
It remains to be seen whether de Armas' character and Reeves’ John Wick will collaborate or clash in the film. Either way, fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the two actors reunite on screen. With the movie taking place before the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, some speculate that Ballerina could offer hints or setups for the rumored John Wick: Chapter 5, although that’s still wishful thinking at this stage.
In addition to Ana de Armas (Knives Out; No Time to Die) taking on the lead role and Keanu Reeves (The Matrix; Sonic the Hedgehog 3) reprising his role as John Wick, the film boasts an impressive supporting cast. This includes Anjelica Huston (The Addams Family; Prizzi’s Honor), Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects; Miller's Crossing), the late Lance Reddick (John Wick; The Wire), Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace; The Affair), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead; Boondock Saints), and Ian McShane (Deadwood; John Wick).
Ballerina is directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld; Live Free or Die Hard) with a script penned by Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum; Army of the Dead). The film's producers include Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski.
This will be the second major spinoff in the John Wick franchise, following The Continental: From the World of John Wick, a prequel series that premiered on Peacock last year. Fans of the franchise are excited to see how Ballerina expands the world of John Wick and adds to its lore.
Ballerina hits theaters on June 6, 2025!
