The John Wick franchise has seen Keanu Reeves make quite the Hollywood comeback, and after reprising his role as Neo in The Matrix Resurrections, he'll also return as DC Comics' Hellblazer in Constantine 2. Another big project on the horizon for the actor, of course, is Netflix's adaptation of his, Matt Kindt, and Ron Garney's comic book series, BRZRKR.
Reeves is set to play the character who shares his likeness on the page, but could the actor also decide to step behind the camera to direct the movie? The Batman scribe Mattson Tomlin recently finished writing the screenplay, and the project does need a director!
Talking to Collider, Reeves said, "I got [the script] yesterday or two days ago. I haven't read it yet." He'd go on to say that it's still "early days" when it comes to finding a director, but pointed out that there's a "33%" of him choosing to take charge of the movie. He does have some experience on that front, remember, as he previously helmed 2013's Man of Tai Chi.
"I know how it's a lot of work, but the film that I directed, Man of Tai Chi, was born, I became the director because I was part of the writing process, and I didn't want to hand it over. I was like, oh, okay. I have to direct this. I'm not quite there yet on ‘BRZRKR’. I have to read the script, but I'm also interested in having a collaborator and what they could bring to it."
We're not sure how serious Reeves is about helming BRZRKR, and we'd guess the actor eventually chooses a director he's happy with. Still, it would be undeniably epic for him to be that hands-on with what is clearly a passionate project and we're sure Netflix would be happy seeing him both in front and behind the camera.
"The man known only as B. is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence...even at the sacrifice of his sanity," reads the official description of the comic book series. "But after wandering the world for centuries, the Berzerker may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else."
"In exchange, B. will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it."
