Prime Video has unveiled the first official trailer for Kate Beckinsale’s upcoming action film Canary Black. The former Underworld star takes on the role of Avery Graves, a top CIA operative who is forced to go rogue to rescue her kidnapped husband while simultaneously trying to prevent the outbreak of World War 3.
The film’s full synopsis details the high-stakes plot: “Avery Graves, a top CIA operative, is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her husband, who has been kidnapped. Cut off from her team, she must turn to her underworld contacts to survive and locate the coveted intelligence the kidnappers demand. Betrayed at every turn, she uses her elite training and raw combat skills to navigate a deadly race, where failure could lead to a global crisis.”
Canary Black marks Beckinsale’s second major action release on Prime Video, following 2021’s Jolt. Beckinsale has previously partnered with the streaming platform for her series The Widow, which was available in the U.S. and select international markets. Her return to action-packed roles with Canary Black promises another intense performance.
In addition to Beckinsale (Van Helsing; Pearl Harbor), the film’s cast features the late Ray Stevenson (Thor; RRR), Rupert Friend (Homeland; The Death of Stalin), Jaz Hutchins (The Outlaws; Doctors), Goran Kostić (In the Land of Blood and Honey; Taken), and Ben Mills (The Capture; The Crown). The ensemble cast complements the film’s gritty and fast-paced storyline.
Directed by Pierre Morel, known for his work on Taken and Peppermint, Canary Black brings Morel’s signature style of high-octane action to the screen. The screenplay was penned by Matthew Kennedy, adding to the film’s tension-filled plot and Beckinsale’s formidable lead performance.
Beckinsale is best known for her iconic role as Selene in the Underworld franchise, where she appeared in five films, including Underworld, Underworld: Evolution, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, Underworld: Awakening, and Underworld: Blood Wars, as well as the video game Underworld: The Eternal War.
Her notable filmography also includes a wide range of genres, with credits in Much Ado About Nothing, Pearl Harbor, Serendipity, Van Helsing, The Aviator, Click, Vacancy, Everybody’s Fine, Total Recall, Love & Friendship, The Disappointments Room, The Only Boy Living in New York, and Jolt. Following Canary Black, Beckinsale is set to appear in The Patient and Stolen Girl next year.
Canary Black starts streaming, exclusively on Prime Video, on October 24!
