Drew Barrymore is no longer on our screens as much as she once was, but the beloved actress has now confirmed she would be open to reuniting with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu for a new Charlie's Angels movie. Talking to People about her future plans, Barrymore addressed Mindy Kaling's recent suggestion that she should return to the action franchise.
"Those are interesting challenges because they have been established. That really is building upon something," she started. "There's so much history there that they don't feel like [the work of] making films. It's like, 'Do you want to spend your life doing that? With those people?' Yes. I would show up. I really would."
In the same interview, Barrymore also expressed interest in teaming with Adam Sandler again after joining him in movies like 50 First Dates, Blended, and The Weeding Singer.
Clearly, she's looking to tap into that nostalgia factor, and as a producer of the 2000 movie, there's a decent chance Barrymore could reunite with her co-stars.
That first chapter was followed by a sequel three years later, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and despite mixed reviews, it earned $259 million, a figure on par with Charlie's Angels' $264 million.
Barrymore was an executive producer on Elizabeth Banks' Charlie's Angels reboot in 2019, with Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska taking over for the original trio. The movie didn't receive a particularly warm response from fans or critics and there's no indication a sequel is being considered at this point.
With that in mind, another reboot happening down the line seems likely, though the best way to reignite interest in this series is probably to bring back Barrymore, Diaz, and Liu! We're not necessarily banking on that happening, but the fact at least one original cast member is interested may bode well.
Would you guys like to see a Charlie's Angels threequel?
