The first poster for Cocaine Bear has been released, and it features... a bear surrounded by a mountain of cocaine.
Directed by Charlie's Angels helmer Elizabeth Banks, this is actually based on the true story of a black bear who ingested an entire bag of devil's dandruff worth $15 million while minding his own business in the Chattahoochee-Oconee national forest back in 1985.
We know what you're thinking: the bear went on a drug-fuelled rampage in a nearby town before having to be taken down by the local cops? Actually, no. He just... ate the coke and died.
Wouldn't exactly make for the most gripping story, so we assume Banks' film is either going to take some significant liberties, or recount what happened in the buildup to the coke finding its way into the forest in the first place.
Corrupt narcotics officer Andrew Thornton, who had become the head of an international drug smuggling operation, was transporting the cocaine by plane when he ran into engine trouble. Panicked, he dumped the drugs out the door before escaping via parachute, but the chute didn't open and and Thornton died on impact 50 miles away in Knoxville.
While this would make for a slightly more exciting yarn, we still have no idea where the bear comes in. After all, if you go and see a movie called Cocaine Bear and the only time said high-as-a-kite animal shows up is right at the end to eat the coke and die, you're not gonna be too happy!
A trailer will hopefully make things a little clearer. For now, you can check out the poster below.
