We learned yesterday that Netflix is moving forward with a sequel to The Gray Man, along with a spinoff from the writers of Deadpool. Now, we have intel on another AGBO property developed exclusively for the streaming service as Collider has shared a release window for the highly anticipated Extraction sequel.
According to the site, the movie is set to arrive on Netflix in 2023.
Plot details for Extraction 2 are being kept under wraps, but we know Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake will return. The former Australian special forces operator turned mercenary appeared to die at the end of the first movie, but a last-minute tease suggested he survived those wounds.
Sam Hargrave once again stepped behind the camera to direct this sequel, while Joe Russo penned the screenplay. He and brother Anthony will produce through AGBO, and it's clear now this is envisioned as a new franchise for the streaming giant.
Reviews for Extraction were positive, and we awarded the movie 5* over at ComicBookMovie.com. " Extraction features a Chris Hemsworth more badass than Bond and more brutal than Bourne," our verdict read, "and Sam Hargrave's debut feature will hopefully serve as a launching platform for this to be an action-packed new franchise on Netflix."
Hopefully, this movie is heading our way early next year. If so, that will likely mean we get some official details sooner rather than later as we can't wait to see more of Rake in action. While Hemsworth will be best known to many for playing Thor in the MCU, this is a role that the actor can use to become not just a superhero movie star, but an action one as well.
