Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the first full trailer for Heads of State, delivering a high-octane glimpse at this summer’s action-comedy team-up. John Cena steps in as the combative President of the United States, while Idris Elba portrays the equally stubborn Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Caught between their egos—and determined to keep them alive—is Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Noel, an unflappable MI6 bodyguard.
According to the official synopsis, the two world leaders share a headline-grabbing rivalry that threatens to fracture the Anglo-American alliance. When a shadowy enemy targets them both, the duo is forced onto a frenetic, globe-spanning run. With Noel’s expertise, they must outwit an international conspiracy capable of upending the free world.
Heads of State marks the first on-screen reunion of Elba and Cena since 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Development on the project began in late 2020, but the puzzle pieces took time to lock into place—most notably with Chopra Jonas signing on in spring 2023.
Principal photography kicked off in London that May before shifting to Liverpool’s St. George’s Hall in June. The production then chased high-speed sequences through Trieste, Italy, across July and August, finally wrapping additional photography in Belgrade, Serbia, nearly a year later. The new trailer hints that this whirlwind itinerary translates directly to the plot, promising car chases, gun battles, and a healthy dose of culture-clash comedy as the unlikely trio races to neutralize a global threat.
In addition to Elba, Cena, and Chopra, the supporting cast consists of Jack Quaid (The Boys; Scream; Oppenheimer), Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon; The Outsider; Dead Man’s Shoes), Stephen Root (Barry; Office Space; Get Out), Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House; Gerald’s Game; Spy Kids), Sarah Niles (Ted Lasso; I May Destroy You; Catastrophe), Richard Coyle (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore; Chilling Adventures of Sabrina; Coupling), Clare Foster (The Crown; Les Misérables; Taboo), Katrina Durden (Doctor Strange; Street Fighter: Resurrection; The Hitman's Bodyguard), Aleksandr Kuznetsov (Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore; Tetris; Great Poetry).
Ilya Naishuller (Nobody; Hardcore Henry; Invasion) helmed the feature, with a screenplay from Josh Appelbaum (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Citadel), André Nemec (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol; Alias; Cowboy Bebop), and Harrison Query (My Wife and I Bought a Ranch...; Warface; Bunker).
