JASON BOURNE: Matt Damon Breaks Silence On New Movie; "I Hope It's Great, And That We Can Do It"

Last November, we learned that a new Bourne movie is in the works from All Quiet on the Western Front director Edward Berger. Most fans had assumed that Matt Damon's time as the ex-CIA agent and Treadstone operative had come to an end, but it appears there's still at least one more story worth telling.

Bourne remains in hiding after 2016's Jason Bourne but looks set to return to action in a new instalment which Damon has finally broken his silence on.

"No details have been given to me," he claims in the video below. "No, no, no. There’s a great director, named Edward Berger, who directed All Quiet on the Western Front. I don’t know if you saw it, it came out recently. Fantastic. A German director, he’s wonderful. And he said he had an idea. I would love to work with him!"

"So he’s working on it, so I’m looking, I’m as anxious as you are to see if this thing - I hope it’s great, and that we can do it," Damon continued, making it clear that it's still very early days for the movie. "At a certain point, someone is going to need to take it over. I’m not getting any younger."

If the actor, who first played Bourne in 2002, isn't happy with what Berger comes up with, then there's clearly still a chance he'll pass on the project. It doesn't sound like he's signed up for anything just yet, regardless, and the last time Damon turned down one of these movies, Jeremy Renner replaced him!

However, Aaron Cross remains M.I.A. and there's nothing to suggest a team-up is planned.

The Bourne franchise has so far consisted of five movies: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy, and Jason Bourne. Doug Liman helmed the first instalment, while Tony Gilroy stepped in for the Renner-led Legacy. However, it was Paul Greengrass who put the franchise on the map with his movies.

The Treadstone TV series didn't fare particularly well but franchise producer Frank Marshall first revealed way back in 2020 that he was looking for ways to resurrect the property in theaters.

"I do like the Bourne series, and I do think that’s an opportunity for different filmmakers to come in now. So, I’m hoping that we can find a new story for Bourne and a new filmmaker. We are looking."
