The latest addition to the franchise, which will be released in theaters on March 24th, aims to leverage the duration to intensify the action to previously unimaginable levels. John Wick 4 is shaping up to be something genuinely surreal given that this movie has already given us nightclub shootouts, knife-throwing extravaganzas, ninjas on motorbikes, and Halle Berry fighting alongside two deadly canines.
"John Wick: Chapter 4 has the most action of any of the [John Wick] films, which is saying a lot," Reeves had to say. "And it's more by a good margin. It's a big show."
Since the release of the first John Wickin 2014, each film in the series has grown in length. The length of that film is 101 minutes. The second movie, which launched the series internationally and lasted 122 minutes, was followed by the third movie that lasted 131 minutes. John Wick: Chapter 4 will clock in at a whopping 169 minutes (2 hours and 49 minutes)!
In John Wick: Chapter 4, which continues up where the third movie left off, a nearly dead Wick makes a vow to exact retribution on The High Table for their heinous attempt to eliminate him. Wick is now fully engaged in retaliation after Winston and the Continental appeared to betray our favorite lethal dog lover. However, a new opponent with international connections as well as former allies who have turned hostile endanger his chance at freedom.
In addition to Reeves, The Bowery King's Laurence Fishburne, Charon's Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane will also be back in the new movie (Winston Scott). Donnie Yen, a legendary martial arts actor best known for his parts in Ip Man and Rogue One, will be a new enemy for Wick to face off against in the series as Caine. Bill Skarsgrd plays Marquis, Hiroyuki Sanada plays Shimazu, Shamier Anderson plays Tracker, singer-songwriter Rina Sawayama plays Akira, Scott Adkins plays Killa, Clancy Brown plays The Harbinger, Marko Zaror plays Chidi, and Natalia Tena plays Katia. They all join the cast.
Chad Stahelski, the stuntman-turned-director who oversaw the first three movies, will also return for the sequel. The popularity of the franchise has greatly boosted Stahelski's career as a director. Currently, Stahelski is associated in the film adaptation of the acclaimed 2020 action-adventure game Ghost of Tsushima.
