The Fast & Furious franchise is nearing its end, and most fans feel the only logical next step for the action franchise is for it to head into outer space or be mashed together with the Jurassic World movies (because who wouldn't want to watch Dom chase down a T-Rex?).
The point is, as these non-superhero blockbusters look for ways to wow fans, they're upping the ante to a point where it's hard to imagine where they go next without heading down a fantastical route.
John Wick is a series that clearly has a lot of life left in it, something that's evident from the way this franchise is starting to expand. Despite that, during a recent interview with ComicBook.com, John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahelski acknowledged that taking Keanu Reeves' assassin into outer space isn't off the table.
"There's a distinct possibility it could [happen]," the filmmaker admits. "I don't know if I'd be piloting the ship, but could the character go? Even as a fan, I think the John Wick world is kind of fun and interesting. But the sky's the limit. We're not coming from an existing IP, so I don't have to follow Batman lore. I can do anything."
"If the producers, including myself in the studio somehow became very smart very quickly and we could continue to be smart about how we managed it and get the right people in to continue it long past my tenure. Yeah. Anything can happen. If Fast and Furious can, I'm sure we can. Might take a little longer, but let's stay earthbound for now and try to keep doing a good job down here."
These comments don't necessarily point to this happening in the near future, and it sounds like Stahelski is hoping to keep the John Wick character grounded in reality. Most fans would also probably prefer that, though we can't help but wonder whether there might be a fun way to have the character kick some alien ass.
Eh, maybe not.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to be released in theaters on March 24, 2023, while The Continental still doesn't have a release date.
