For those who love action flicks, a brand new film called Last Resort is finally making its way to fans. The film landed in theaters on Friday and this week it spread to digital so those without the means to make it to the big screen can also enjoy it.
Last Resort features Jon Foo, best known for Tekken and the Rush Hour television adaptation. The film leverages this action-oriented lead and places him against Clayton Norcross (Fatal Passion, Tailor-Made Murder). The movie heavily features fire-arm action as well as hand-to-hand fighting with a solid back-and-forth between both arts.
With Foo playing an ex-military character waging a one-man army to save his family, some people may automatically think of titles like The Punisher, but the bank heist and a lethal toxin make it for a much-layered story that you'll have to see in order to take in all of the levels to Last Resort.
Also starring in the movie as Foo's wife is Ying Julaluck Islamone, while the Thailand-based actress's daughter playing their child. In addition to speaking to the director of the film, we also chatted with Ying to get a few bits of information from her, and she not only praised the director and explained the levels of her career but we managed to ask about acting as the mother to a character played by her real-life daughter, Angeline Islamone. You can see our interview below on the Literary Joe show, and we have also included a transcript of her comments below in case you're in a hurry.
Jean Marc is my brother, so I can listen to him all day long. Normally, my career now is Executive Producer, and in Thailand also. But before that, I was also an actress in Thailand. So I love doing both. I used to work with Jean Marc for more than ten years. He's like my brother and family so I'm so appreciative that for this film he wrote for me and gave me a role. It looked like it was going to be so hard, but for me it was actually so smooth. In Thailand you're only around 20 crew and 20 people. So we were so happy in this location because of the loss of family connection and friends. but the location was very beautiful. We were very proud to do it because we like all of the team, especially Jean Marc. I'm so proud of this film and that we did it.
Angeline, it's her first time acting in a film. And in this film, Jean Marc wrote for her, so I'm so happy to act with her. And we worked so hard to practice together and workshop and read-through. Normally, work with family should be something where you laugh and have fun, and something you like. Angie did sports, she's kind of like an athlete. She's a national team figure skater in Thailand so she trained a lot so she likes something like action, she had so much fun. And a little bit of drama for her is so cool.
Clearly, Last Resort has all of the makings of a successful action film, from the Tekken star's hand-to-hand combat, the gun fights and the overall violence, so take a look at the trailer and synopsis below for yourself to see if it's your brand of film!
Regardless of your take, be sure to let us know your thoughts on Ying's comments and your impression of the film below!
