Netflix has released the first full trailer for Luther: The Fallen Sun, the streamer's feature continuation of the acclaimed BBC series that ran for five seasons and starred Idris Elba as a hardened copper with the ability to get inside the minds of the twisted criminals he hunts.

When we catch up with Detective John Luther, he's managed to escape from prison in order to fulfil a promise to a woman whose son was murdered, presumably by Luther's latest nemesis: a mysterious serial killer played by Black Panther and Andor actor Andy Serkis.

Specific plot details remain vague, but based on what we see here, Luther is going to have to pursue Serkis' character while avoiding his former colleagues - including his old boss Martin Schenk (Dermot Crawley), and a higher-ranking officer played by Cynthia Erivo.

“With film, the sky is the limit," said Elba of his character's feature debut in a recent interview. "You can be a little bit more bold with the storylines. And a little bit more international, and a little more up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.”

Luther: The Fallen Sun will have a limited theatrical run later this month before premiering on Netflix on March 10.
