Deadline is reporting that Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds; The Alienist) has joined the cast of Sony Pictures' The Equalizer 3, which has Antoine Fuqua back on board to direct.
The casting news is one of the more exciting in recent memory as it reunites Fanning with her Man on Fire co-star Denzel Washington, who will return in the title role as Robert McCall.
Plot details remain under lock-and-key, but Richard Wenk, who penned the first two installments, is also back to write chapter three. Filming will presumably begin later this year.
Both The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2 were successful at the box office, with the first installment grossing $192.3 million worldwide while the second installment earned $190.4 million globally. With Fanning's involvement, it's likely the third film will be the biggest one yet as audiences will be very eager to see the two stars reteam on the big screen.
While Fanning is best known for her work as a child actress in Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds, I Am Sam, and the aforementioned Man on Fire, her more recent credits include The Alienist, The First Lady, Ocean's Eight, and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. She can be seen next in Rodham, Showtime's Ripley, and Mélanie Laurent's The Nightingale, where she'll star opposite sister Elle Fanning.
The Equalizer 3 hits theaters September 1, 2023.
