Margot Robbie's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Movie Gets Surprising Update After Her Recent Claims It's Canceled

There's no denying that Margot Robbie is among the most talented actresses working in Hollywood today. With Barbie on the horizon, along with a whole lot more Harley Quinn in the new DCU, we're sure, she'll have ample opportunities to continue showing that.

However, one big franchise Robbie may have missed out on is Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean.

The studio appears keen to reboot the franchise without Johnny Depp, and it was back in 2020 that we first heard about plans for not one, but two new movies set in that world. The first was set be written by franchise veteran Ted Elliott and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, with the other penned by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson that had Robbie attached to star.

Unfortunately, it was last month that the actress said, "We had an idea, and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led - not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story - which we thought would’ve been really cool. But I guess they don't want to do it."

While it appeared the ship had sunk on that movie, this fresh take on Pirates of the Caribbean might not be entirely dead after all. Talking to Collider, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said the spin-off hasn't been cancelled, but rather put on the backburner while that other movie is focused on for now.

"I think that that script will come forward at a certain point," he confirmed. "We developed two different stories for Pirates and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made."

Robbie may be unhappy her movie isn't coming together as quickly as she'd have liked, but it doesn't sound like Disney doesn't want it. Her comments seemed to suggest she's wiped her hands with Pirates of the Caribbean, though we're sure there's something the studio can do to tempt her back.

Be sure to stay tuned for updates.
