Lionsgate has just released the first official trailer for Flight Risk, an upcoming action-thriller directed by two-time Oscar-winner Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Apocalypto, Hacksaw Ridge). The film stars two-time Academy Award-nominee Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter, The Departed, Ted) in the lead role, portraying a pilot whose true identity remains uncertain.

The synopsis reads: "In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Mark Wahlberg plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) and a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they traverse the Alaskan wilderness, tensions escalate and trust is put to the test, as not everyone on board is who they seem."

While the plot appears straightforward, it promises a wealth of thrills. The release is part of a busy October lineup, including Joker: Folie à Deux (October 4), White Bird (October 4), Terrifier 3 (October 11), Piece by Piece (October 11), We Live in Time (October 11), Smile 2 (October 18), and Venom: The Last Dance (October 25).

Joining Wahlberg in the cast are four-time Primetime Emmy-nominee Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey, Good Behavior, Godless), and Topher Grace (That '70s Show, Spider-Man 3, BlacKkKlansman). This marks Wahlberg's first villainous role since 1996's horror-thriller Fear, where he played the menacing David McCall, terrorizing Reese Witherspoon's character. His performance in Flight Risk is expected to offer a refreshing change from his recent family-friendly roles, including Arthur the King (2024), The Family Plan (2023), Me Time (2022), Uncharted (2022), Father Stu (2022), Infinite (2021), Joe Bell (2020), Spenser Confidential (2020), Scoob! (2020), Wonderland (2019), and Instant Family (2018).

Before Flight Risk, Wahlberg can be seen in the Netflix action-thriller The Union, starring alongside Halle Berry. This film's first trailer was released yesterday. Wahlberg is also currently filming Shane Black's crime thriller Play Dirty, set to be released next year, co-starring LaKeith Stanfield.

Flight Risk is shaping up to be a significant entry in Wahlberg's filmography, showcasing his versatility as he returns to a darker, more complex role. With Mel Gibson at the helm, known for his intense and gripping storytelling, this film is anticipated to deliver a riveting cinematic experience. The combination of a strong cast, a suspenseful narrative, and the scenic yet treacherous backdrop of the Alaskan wilderness sets the stage for a thrilling adventure that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. The film's release is highly anticipated, adding to the excitement of an already packed October movie lineup.

Flight Risk hits theaters on October 18!
