It's been a long time coming, but barring any future setbacks, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina will finally hit theaters this June.
First developed by Lionsgate in 2017 as a separate film, ideas from the script would eventually be incorporated into John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), with Ana de Armas officially boarding the John Wick spin-off in 2021.
Filming commenced in November 2022 and wrapped in February 2023. During post-production, it was decided that the film needed more action scenes, and two to three months of reshoots were commissioned in early 2024.
Now, six years after a ballerina first appeared in John Wick 3, the spin-off film is set to hit North American theaters on June 6, 2025.
In a previous interview, Ana de Armas wanted to make it clear to audiences that her character is not John Wick.
"I think there are some trademarks in the style of the fights in John Wick, and things that he does that are very particular to him," de Armas previously told Collider.
"But because in this movie we’re seeing through Eve’s eyes the background of that training that John had, and how these assassins and ballerinas, how these people become these assassins, there are some little details that are the same, but Eve Macarro is Eve Macarro. She’s not John Wick."
More recently, while promoting his upcoming motorcycle docuseries series Visionaries, John Wick franchise star Keanu Reeves stated that the chances of a fifth installment in the long-running action franchise were slim, at best.
Speaking to Extra, Reeves stated, "You know, the character's dead. He died in John Wick: Chapter 4."
Reeves then went on to acknowledge that in Hollywood, there's always a way to return from the grave but insisted that right now, there are no plans for a 5th, main title installment.
Ballerina will also mark the final cinematic appearance of Lance Reddick, who passed away in 2023.
