Ana de Armas has made a name for herself delivering stellar performances in movies like Blade Runner 2049, Knives Out, and No Time to Die, but will Blonde be the project that lands her an Oscar? The actress will play Marilyn Monroe in the Netflix movie from filmmaker Andrew Dominik, and there's a lot of buzz surrounding her work.
Part of what de Armas brought to the table as this Hollyood legend will be nude scenes, something that's generated a lot of chatter online. Talking to Variety, she acknowledged that those moments eventually going viral is an unfortunate inevitability.
"I know what’s going to go viral, and it’s disgusting," she tells the trade. "It’s upsetting just to think about it. I can’t control it; you can’t really control what they do and how they take things out of context.
"I don’t think it gave me second thoughts; it just gave me a bad taste to think about the future of those clips," de Armas continues. "I did things in this movie I would have never done for anyone else, ever. I did it for her, and I did it for Andrew."
Blonde begins streaming on September 28 and that means viewers will be able to edit and make clips out of those scenes. Screenshots are also guaranteed to spread like wildfire, though the same could be said for any actor who strips off for a film or television role.
De Armas' performance in Blonde saw the movie receive a ridiculous 14-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival where it had its world premiere. That was the longest at the event this year and while critics are divided on the movie itself, her work is being unanimously praised.
