Warner Bros has officially unveiled the full-length trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s newest project, One Battle After Another, marking the acclaimed filmmaker’s first collaboration with Academy Award-winner Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is described as a black comedy thriller, adding to Anderson’s already impressive resume of character-driven dramas, including Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, Punch-Drunk Love, and his most recent release, Licorice Pizza. In fact, this marks Anderson’s first directorial effort since Licorice Pizza (2021), generating considerable anticipation among moviegoers who have followed his career since the mid-1990s.

The story centers on DiCaprio’s character, Bob Ferguson, who is presented as a revolutionary fighting against mounting odds to save his daughter. Though Warner Bros had been guarded about plot details up to this point, the newly released trailer hints at a unique blend of tense action sequences, sardonic humor, and emotionally charged drama—a characteristic hallmark of Anderson’s work. DiCaprio’s portrayal of Bob appears intense and layered, promising to further cement his standing as one of the most versatile leading men in contemporary cinema. This new role follows DiCaprio’s previous collaborations with other distinguished directors, including Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.

The ensemble cast for One Battle After Another is similarly impressive, featuring a host of seasoned and rising stars. Among them is two-time Academy Award-winner Sean Penn, recognized for his powerful performances in Mystic River, Milk, and The Thin Red Line. Benicio del Toro, another Academy Award recipient, brings his signature gravitas, having proven his range in Traffic, Sicario, and The Usual Suspects. Regina Hall—celebrated for her comedic timing and dramatic chops in Girls Trip, Scary Movie, and The Best Man—joins the roster, along with Teyana Taylor, the multi-hyphenate artist known for her roles in A Thousand and One and Coming 2 America. Emerging talents Chase Infiniti (Bruiser; All American; Bel-Air) and Shayna McHayle (Support the Girls; Random Acts of Flyness; One Dollar) round out the cast, accompanied by the ever-reliable Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza; Valley Girl; The Idol) and Wood Harris (The Wire; Remember the Titans; Creed).

Behind the camera, Paul Thomas Anderson not only directed the feature but wrote and produced it as well. An 11-time Oscar nominee, he is known for films that explore morally complex characters under mounting pressure. Whether it’s the oil-rich mania of There Will Be Blood or the twisted comedic elements of Punch-Drunk Love, his storytelling is widely praised for blending biting humor with psychological intensity. One Battle After Another continues this tradition, promising a narrative that examines the human condition through a provocative, darkly comedic lens.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio has additional projects on the horizon. In a separate development, 20th Century reportedly secured distribution rights to Martin Scorsese’s next film, a Hawaii-set crime thriller featuring DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, and Emily Blunt. With multiple high-profile releases in the pipeline, DiCaprio remains at the forefront of Hollywood’s A-list talent, while Anderson’s passionate fan base eagerly awaits this long-anticipated new offering. Based on the trailer’s combination of socio-political commentary, dramatic tension, and streaks of wry humor, One Battle After Another looks poised to become one of the most talked-about films of the year—an event that cinephiles and mainstream audiences alike won’t want to miss.
