Following its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, Netflix has shared the first official teaser trailer for Sacrifice, their upcoming action adventure comedy starring Chris Evans (Avengers: Doomsday; Captain America: Civil War) as a movie star who gets abducted by a radical group led by Anya Taylor-Joy (Lucky; Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga).
Her goal? To throw Evans into a volcano, which makes for quite the premise. As per the film's official synopsis, "During a star-studded charity gala brimming with celebrities, billionaires and empty speeches, a movie star in the midst of an existential crisis is taken hostage by a radical warrior and her devoted followers. As the night descends into chaos, both an inward journey and an outward adventure ensue, where the line between performance and belief, salvation and sacrifice, begins to blur."
In an interview with Netflix Tudum, Taylor-Joy shared her enthusiasm for the project, “It's such a meta movie to be a part of. I see a lot about individual effort versus collective effort. I see a lot about just how numb people have become, the lack of importance placed on things that actually matter rather than this easier, entertaining way of looking at things. It's this concept that you can sweep things under the rug, and I think Joan and her tribe are cold water in the face to that.”
The film debuted in the Special Presentations section of the Toronto International Film Festival last year, where it received a mixed response from critics. Netflix acquired the film's U.S. and French distribution rights earlier this year.
The cast features Chris Evans ("Mike Tyler"), Anya Taylor-Joy ("Joan"), Vincent Cassel ("Ben Bracken"), Ambika Mod ("Daughter Nature"), Jonatan “Yung Lean” Leandoer ("Arthur"), Sam Richardson ("Oliver"), Jade Croot ("Louise"), Miriam Silverman ("Anna"), Charli XCX ("Mother Nature"), John Malkovich ("Gunnar"), and Salma Hayek-Pinault ("Gloria Bracken").
Romain Gavras (Athena; The World Is Yours) helmed the feature, with a screenplay he co-wrote alongside Will Arbery (Succession; Seven Sisters).
Sacrifice starts streaming, exclusively on Netflix, on October 16!
