SHANG-CHI Star Michelle Yeoh Lost KILL BILL Role Because No One Believed Uma Thurman Would Kick Her Ass

Shang-Chi and Everything Everywhere All At Once star Michelle Yeoh has reflected on missing out on a role in Kill Bill, explaining Quentin Tarantino's reasoning for not pitting her against Uma Thurman.

Star Trek Discovery and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Michelle Yeoh recently got to kick a lot of ass in Everything Everywhere All At Once, but she's now reflected on missing out on a role in Kill Bill. Quentin Tarantino's two-part martial arts masterpiece attracted a lot of big names, so why didn't Yeoh get in on the action?

Talking to Town & Country, Yeoh revealed that the filmmaker told her that her performance in Jackie Chan's Police Story 3 actually influenced his work on the movies. However, to Tarantino, the actor was simply too formidable an opponent for Uma Thurman.

"He's very smart," Yeoh recalls. "He said, 'Who would believe that Uma Thurman could kick your ass?'"

Kill Bill was a groundbreaking female-led action movie, and one fans still hope will receive a third chapter. Tarantino has appeared open to the idea in the past, but remains somewhat mysterious when it comes to his future plans. We know that he's considered helming a Star Trek movie, of course, and there have even been discussions of the filmmaker doing a comedy.

As for who could star in the next Kill Bill movie, we'd like to see Thurman return, though Spider-Man: No Way Home star Zendaya's name is often mentioned as a possible replacement. The actor has said she's "flattered" by the idea, but whether that actually happens is another matter.

Yeoh doesn't mention who she was going to potentially play in Kill Bill, though we'd guess it might have been O-Ren Ishii. Lucy Liu ultimately starred as the character, of course, and it's hard to imagine anyone else playing that role now.

Still, if you're keen to see the actor kicking ass, then we really can't recommend Everything Everywhere All At Once highly enough.
