Amazon MGM Studios has released an exciting new trailer for Gavin O’Connor’s much-anticipated sequel, The Accountant 2, following a warm reception at the studio’s CinemaCon presentation. This next chapter sees Ben Affleck reprising his role as Christian Wolff, the enigmatic math savant/killer from the 2016 original, and he’s joined once again by Jon Bernthal as Wolff’s lethally skilled brother, Brax.
The fresh footage emphasizes a dynamic blend of action and humor, highlighting the palpable chemistry between Affleck and Bernthal as they reunite on-screen after a nine-year gap. Beyond the banter and gunfire, however, the trailer hints at a far-reaching conspiracy that will challenge the Wolff brothers in unexpected ways.
If you’re keen to catch the film early, Amazon MGM Studios has announced special “Tax Day” preview screenings on Tuesday, April 15—ten days before its wide release. Tickets for both the exclusive previews and regular showings are now on sale.
According to the official synopsis, Christian Wolff’s knack for unraveling complex mysteries lands him in peril once again when an old acquaintance is murdered. The cryptic message left behind—“find the accountant”—sends Wolff on a collision course with a new threat. Recognizing he can’t tackle this case alone, he enlists Brax, his estranged brother, who’s more than capable of dishing out punishment to anyone that crosses their path. Teaming up with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), the brothers soon discover they’ve stumbled onto a lethal conspiracy, inciting the wrath of a hidden network of killers dedicated to preserving their secrets at any cost.
The first film, released in 2016, surprised many by racking up over $155.2 million in global box-office receipts on a budget of around $44 million. Its success paved the way for this eagerly awaited sequel, which will once again be steered by director and co-writer Gavin O’Connor. With Affleck and Bernthal leading the charge—and early buzz pointing to a more comedic spin on their intense dynamic—The Accountant 2 looks poised to deliver a thrilling and entertaining ride for both new audiences and die-hard fans alike.
In addition to Affleck and Bernthal, the supporting cast consists of Cynthia Addai-Robinson (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power; Power; Arrow), Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom; Cowboy Bebop; The Originals), Allison Robertson (Josie and the Pussycats; The Last Shot; Supergirl), and Academy Award-winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash; Spider-Man; Being the Ricardos).
Gavin O'Connor (Warrior; The Way Back; Miracle) returns to helm the sequel with a screenplay from original screenwriter Bill Dubuque (The Judge; A Family Man; Ozark).
Affleck is producing the feature alongside Matt Damon, Lynette Howell Taylor, and Mark Williams.
