Josh Harnett's career comeback, which began with 2023's Oppenheimer and continued with 2024's Trap, is reaching new heights. I mean that literally as the beloved actor is set to star in the high-flying action film, Fight or Flight.
In the movie, which received a trailer this week, Hartnett stars as a mercenary who finds himself aboard an airplane filled with deadly assassins. Tired of being on the run, Hartnett's character is looking to escape his mysterious past. So he's offered one final gig to track down a "high-value target" and take them into custody. As it turns out, just about everyone aboard the plane is there to collect the bounty.
"A mercenary takes on the job of tracking down a target on a plane but must protect her when they're surrounded by people trying to kill both of them," the synopsis reads.
As you can see, there's no shortage of impressive martial arts action, which makes sense when you realize it's from Thunder Roads, the production studio responsible for John Wick along with other blockbusters The Town and Sicario. It's produced by Basil Iwanyk (John Wick) and directed by James Madigan from a screenplay written by Brooks McLaren and D.J. Cotrona. This will mark Madigan's first feature-length directorial debut. He previously has directed episodes of Marvel's Runaways and Medal of Honor.
While Josh Hartnett is definitely the big talking point of this film, there's no shortage of impressive talent attached. Starring alongside him is Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian) and martial arts prodigy Marko Zaror (John Wick: Chapter 4, The Killer's Game). The cast also includes Charithra Chandran (Bridgerton), Julian Kostov (Shadow and Bone), and Juju Chan (Lights Out).
As for the premise, it looks to be a mix of some dark humor and intense choreographed fight sequences. It gives off a mix of John Wick meets Bullet Train but on a plane of course.
Fight or Flight is scheduled to premiere in February 2025, though a specific North American release date has not yet been announced.
As it turns out, Fight or Flight isn't the only plane-inspired action movie releasing in early 2025. Debuting in theaters this month is Flight Risk, an action suspense thriller starring Mark Wahlberg. Coincidentally, we also got a trailer for Flight Risk this week, although that movie feels a bit more suspenseful and less chaotic than Fight or Flight. Both look good though and it's a tremendous start to 2025.
