Paramount Pictures has released an awesome new Dolby Cinema poster for their highly-anticipated actioner Top Gun: Maverick, featuring the legendary Tom Cruise recreating one of his most iconic movie moments from the 1986 classic.
Despite the film, which willl see Cruise finally step back into his career-defining role as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, having been completed for nearly three years now, plot details have managed to remain relatively under wraps. As for what we do know, the recent trailer did reveal details on what - or who - will bring Maverick back to the academy to lead a new squadron of TOPGUN pilots.
In a new interview with Empire, Cruise remembered original director Tony Scott, who tragically took his own life in 2012. “I was with Tony on Friday, and he passed on Sunday. It was horrible.” Producer Jerry Bruckheimer added some details on Scott's contribution to the sequel. “We were so close. We went to the Top Gun school with Tony, and talked to a bunch of officers and aviators for ideas.”
To ensure they properly honored his memory, the duo showed the finished film to Scott's brother Ridley Scott, “One of the most heartwarming things I experienced is when we showed the movie to Tony’s brother, Ridley. He was laudatory in his praise for the film, and the kind of care that Tom took to honour Tony throughout the movie. That was foremost in everybody’s mind.”
In addition to the returning Cruise and Kilmer, the supporting cast consists of Miles Teller as Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, Jon Hamm as Vice Admiral Cyclone, Glen Powell as Hangman, Lewis Pullman as Bob, Ed Harris as Rear Admiral, Monica Barbaro as Phoenix, Charles Parnell as Rear Admiral Warlock, Danny Ramirez as Fanboy, Manny Jacinto as Fritz, Bashir Salahuddin as Coleman, Jay Ellis as Payback, Jake Picking in an undisclosed role, Raymond Lee in an undisclosed role, Lyliana Wray as Amelia Benjamin, Jean Louisa Kelly as Carole Bradshaw, Greg Davis as Coyote, and Bob Stephenson in an undisclosed role.
