With Denis Villeneuve's hiring as the next James Bond director for the upcoming Amazon MGM reboot, a shortlist of actors that are currently being looked at as Daniel Craig's successor emerged.
Tom Holland, best known for playing Spider-Man in the MCU, topped the shortlist at 29 years old. He was joined by fellow rising stars Jacob Elordi, 28, and Harris Dickinson, also 29.
According to reports, Amazon MGM is looking for someone young enough to stay in the role for many years, perhaps several decades.
For reference, Daniel Craig was 37 when he began his run as James Bond in Casino Royale (2005) and 53 when No Time To Die was released in 2021, so that should give you and idea of just how long the next Bond actor could remain in the role.
Recently appearing on celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's YouTube channel, Holland confirmed his interest in the role. The brief Bond conversation starts at the 09:40 mark below.
"Listen, there's speculation at the minute. We'll keep it to a minimum, for now...We'll get there one day."
When Gordon double-down and asked if Holland was truly interested, the British actor replied, "Every young British actor, it's the pinnacle of working in out industry. I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive. I could never have dreamed of having the career that I've had."
Tom clearly didn't want to discuss the topic of Bond further and steered the conversation towards the dish they were cooking and it seemed Ramsay forgot to follow up. But it sounds like Holland is definitely interested.
Elsewhere, Taron Egerton (35), was asked if he had any interest in playing the next Bond. While not on the supposed shortlist, Egerton is a fan favorite thanks to his role in the Kingsman franchise.
However, Egerton told Collider that he doesn't have any interest in the role. "I don’t think I’m a good choice for it. I think I’m too messy for that... I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig's tenure. But I think I wouldn't be good at it, and I think there's so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably."
It was just recently confirmed that in addition to Villeneuve's role as director, Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Locke) will write the script.
However, it's expected that once Villeneuve wraps up his filming and promotional obligations on the third Dune film, he'll put all of his focus on Bond and will likely put his own creative stamp on the script.
