Lionsgate has debuted a new trailer for its upcoming action suspense thriller Flight Risk, and fans are freaking out over the surprise twist. For the record, Flight Risk received its first trailer nearly six months ago, but the film appears to have flown under the radar for many.
Only after this weekend's new trailer have people caught wind of the upcoming action film, which is directed by Mel Gibson and features a star-studded cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace.
Arriving in theaters this month, Flight Risk is set aboard a small transport plane thousands of feet in the sky, creating a sort of isolating, claustrophobic tension as a pilot and Air Marshal accompany a fugitive to trial. It's soon discovered, though, that not everyone on board is who they seem.
For those who never saw the initial trailer, you'll undoubtedly be surprised by the twist of Flight Risk. I suggest watching it below before continuing.
And there you have it, Mark Wahlberg, normally the heroic good guy who saves the day, is instead a hitman posing as a pilot.
“Audiences, at first, are going to think, ‘Here comes Mark to do something to save the day, but nope,” Wahlberg said in a press release. “Fifteen minutes into the film, you realize this is not what you thought it was going to be.”
This latest trailer is just a little over a minute long, but the trailer released months ago offers a bit more of a suspenseful setup.
In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award® nominee Mark Wahlberg (2006, Actor in a Supporting Role, The Departed) plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.
A movie directed by Mel Gibson and starring Mark Wahlberg is clearly going to require some suspension of disbelief, but it has all the makings of an entertaining and intense action thriller. I think the fact that it takes place entirely aboard a small plane and features a small main cast adds to the suspense. I wouldn't be surprised to see some more surprising twists revealed as the movie unfolds. Something tells me there is more to the case and this "fugitive" and Air Marshal than what is shown in the trailer.
Flight Risk takes off in theaters this month, releasing on January 24, 2025.
