Disney and Lucasfilm released the first trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny yesterday evening, and the response thus far has been overwhelmingly positive.
With James Mangold at the helm, we've been anticipating Indiana Jones 5 being something special, and all signs point to it eventually ranking among 2023's best movies. Harrison Ford's long-awaited return as the iconic adventurer is incredibly exciting, especially as we'll be following him both in the late 1960s and as a younger man.
Those de-ageing effects are highlighted in a newly released gallery of stills, and it's fair to say ILM has now mastered that type of VFX. It's something they've been working on for years, with Star Wars TV shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett proving as a great testing ground.
Elsewhere in the gallery, we get to take a look at some of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's other key characters, along with the various locations Indy and his goddaughter, Helena, will be exploring. Disney will likely hold off on marketing this one for a while now, though we'll surely see plenty more from the hero's return as we head into next year.
Joining Ford in the sequel are Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Oliver Richters, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.
The movie is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, is once again composing the score, meaning we can look forward to hearing that classic theme again.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.
