TOP GUN: MAVERICK Now Top U.S. Film Of The Year & Tom Cruise's Biggest Hit Ever As It Zooms Past $800M WW

Top Gun: Maverick's box office reign continues and as it jets past $800M worldwide, it's now become Tom Cruise's biggest blockbuster ever. Plus, it's also now the biggest domestic hit of the year.

Paramount and Skydance's Top Gun: Maverick is continuing its box office dominance and has now grossed over $806.4 million worldwide ($422.2M domestic; $384.2M foreign), all ahead of the sure-to-be lucrative Father's Day weekend.

The Joseph Kosinski-directed blockbuster is now the biggest hit of Tom Cruise's storied career, topping the $791.1 million global sum of Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Fallout from 2018, which is an absolutely remarkable accomplishment considering he's been in the business for over forty years.

Top Gun: Maverick is also the biggest film of the year in the United States, becoming the second film since the pandemic began, after Spider-Man: No Way Home, to cross $400 million domestic and the first one to cross the mark this year, lapping Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

It has also crossed Warner Bros.' The Batman ($770.3M) to become the second-highest-grossing film of the year globally, and has its sights set on the Sam Raimi-directed multiversal superhero adventure, which currently stands at ($935.2M).

Looking ahead, box office pundits are expecting a strong Father's Day weekend for Cruise's latest blockbuster, likely surpassing $450 million domestic by Monday and there is an extremely strong possibility the film will ultimately finish well north of $500 million before all is said and done. Worldwide, it's seeming increasingly likely Top Gun: Maverick will top $1 billion by the end of its 120-day theatrical window.

With a production budget of $172.5 million and $150 million in print and advertising, the film's reported break-even number was approximately $410 million, and since it's already crossed that figure, everything from now until the end of the summer is pretty much all profit. That's great news for Cruise, who's expected to walk away with an astronomical nine-figure payday, the biggest for any actor ever.

Plus, Paramount has released Miles Teller's full "Great Balls of Fire" performance:

Top Gun: Maverick is now play in theaters worldwide!

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.
