1923 officially premiered this weekend. The latest series from creator Taylor Sheridan expands the Yellowstone universe with yet another prequel story that follows a new generation Dutton family led by Jacob and Cara Dutton, played by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, respectively.
The synopsis reads:
1923, a Yellowstone origin story, introduces a new generation of the Dutton family as they explore the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home.
Due to streaming rights, keeping up with the Yellowstone universe can be a bit of a chore. Older seasons of Yellowstone are on Peacock, while the new season can only be watched on Paramount Network (note, that this is different from Paramount+). As I mentioned, spin-off series are typically released on Paramount+ and it's no different for 1923 which is available exclusively on the streaming service. However, the premiere episode also immediately aired on Paramount Network after December 18's episode of Yellowstone.
Season 1 of 1923 is comprised of eight episodes that will premiere every Sunday weekly from December 18th through February 12th (there will be no episode on Christmas, December 25th). There are also reports that the series could actually span two seasons, though nothing official has been announced.
1923 stars Harrison Ford as Jacob Dutton and Helen Mirren as Cara Dutton. Rounding out the cast is Brandon Sklenar as Spencer Dutton, Jacob's nephew; Darren Mann as Jack Dutton, John Dutton Sr.'s son; Michelle Randolph as Elizabeth Strafford, a capable young woman set to marry into the Dutton family; James Badge Dale as John Dutton Sr., the oldest nephew and right-hand man of Jacob; Marley Shelton as Emma Dutton, John Dutton Sr.'s dutiful wife; Brian Geraghty as Zane, a loyal ranch foreman; Aminah Nieves Teonna Rainwater, a young woman at a government resident boarding school; Julia Schlaepfer as Alexandra, a British woman; and Jerome Flynn as Banner Creighton.
So to recap, you can watch 1923 exclusively on Paramount+. Meanwhile, 1883, another prequel series to Yellowstone which is set before 1923, can also be found on Paramount+. Yellowstone Seasons 1-4 are streaming only on Peacock while Season 5 is currently airing on Paramount Network.
