After sharing a first look last month, Prime Video has debuted the official trailer for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, offering an intimately explosive preview of the brand-new series that will be a modern-day reimagining of the 2005 film of the same name, starring 2x Primetime Emmy-winner Donald Glover (Community; Atlanta) and 3x Primetime Emmy-nominee Maya Erskine (PEN15; Obi-Wan Kenobi) in the title roles as John and Jane Smith, respectively.
The first season will consist of eight episodes, all set to be launched on the same day, exclusively on Prime Video, in over 240 countries and territories globally.
However, while same in name, the new series will be a slight departure from the Doug Liman-directed action-thriller that starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The show's synopsis reads, "In this version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?"
In addition to Glover and Erskine, the show will boast a star-studded supporting cast, consisting of Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sarah Paulson, Sharon Horgan, Ron Perlman, Billy Campbell, Úrsula Corberó, Paul Dano, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Parker Posey, and Wagner Moura.
The new trailer teases much of the action-packed mayhem and romance to come as these two strangers are partnered up and must navigate a world of espionage while simultaneously trying to figure out their mutual attraction and the connection that binds them together, for better or worse.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith starts streaming on February 2, 2024!
