Owen Hendricks is ready for his next assignment and this time, he won't be going at it alone. The second season of Netflix's action spy thriller series The Recruit is set to debut on the streaming platform on January 30th. With just a few short weeks to go, Netflix has shared the official trailer along with some brief details about the upcoming second season.

In Season 2 of The Recruit, CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks is pulled into life-threatening espionage in South Korea only to realize the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the agency.

Season 1 of The Recruit was filled with action-packed sequences that pushed Owen Hendricks, the CIA's brightest new lawyer, to the limit. The second season promises "many more dangerous surprises" as Owen sets off to South Korea. This time, he's joined by some new faces, including series newcomer Jang Kyun.

Played by BAFTA nominee Teo Yoo, Jang Kyun is a Korean intelligence agent with a mission of his own. Together, the two have 48 hours to stop an all-out war.

Noah Centineo, who plays Owen Hendricks in the series, briefly talked to Tudum about the chemistry between him and Yoo. “Rhythm and chemistry are tough phenomenons to have control over,” he said. “But, thankfully, I was very fortunate to have a partner in Teo for Season 2.”

Series showrunner, creator, and executive producer Alexi Hawley, however, was quick to point out that despite the pair working together to save the world, Yoo's Jang Kyun does have his own mission and will sacrifice everything for the people he loves.

“It’s a tricky role, because it’s not a buddy comedy between Owen and Jang Kyun,” Hawley explained. “Somebody who will do anything for love is dangerous. … But Owen and Jang Kyun have great energy together. There’s a push and a pull, which is just sort of organic to them.”

Hawley confirmed that Season 2 will pick up immediately after Season 1's ending, which is good to know because the trailer almost feels like it completely ignores the shocking events that took place in the end.

"Owen’s headspace is complete chaos,” revealed Centineo. “He has just witnessed Max — the former CIA asset whom he almost died multiple times trying to protect — get shot by her daughter Nichka. Owen is wondering how in the hell he is going to survive the next few seconds of his life.”

It's already been confirmed that Maddie Hasson, who plays Nichka, the daughter of Season 1's Max Meladze, will return for the second season. However, it's unclear what sort of role she'll have as the action moves to South Korea. In fact, we're not even sure if Season 2 will further address the events of Season 1 or if it will just serve as a launching point for Season 2.

“This show lives in propulsion,” Hawley stated. “So we immediately throw Owen in the deep end, which is where he’s the most fun. It seemed like a great way to start Season 2 — and then we just never let our foot off the gas.”

“Owen knows that if he does not walk away with a win this season, his career is going to be over. He might go to prison,” the series showrunner added. “Depending on what people are into, they can show up this season for the big, flashy, splashy action stuff, but they can also be on a journey with this guy who’s just trying to fix something that he broke.”

The Recruit Season 2 is set to debut on Netflix on January 30, 2025. The first season scored a solid 68% on Rotten Tomatoes but was even more popular with general audiences who rated it an 84% on the Popcornmeter.
