The first teaser trailer for Peacock's television adaptation of Twisted Metal is set to arrive tomorrow (Friday, April 28), the streaming service announced on social media. In the meantime, fans can check out the first promotional image for the series featuring Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and Winter Soldier) behind the wheel of a vehicle armed with machine guns.

For those unfamiliar with Twisted Metal, it's a video game franchise from PlayStation. The video games features various characters who enter a vehicular combat tournament hosted by a mysterious figure named Calypso with the hopes of winning and having their deepest wish granted. Of course, anyone who played the games is familiar with Calypso's tendency to throw an unexpected wrinkle into the wishes he grants.

Although Peacock's adaptation is inspired by the PlayStation video games, the story itself is an original take written by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick. Described as a "high-octane comedy," Twisted Metal follows “a motor-mouthed outsider [who is] offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.”

Starring alongside Mackie in the series are Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Encanto) and Will Arnett (The LEGO Batman Movie). Arnett will voice Sweet Tooth, the insane killer clown who drives an ice cream truck, while pro wrestler Samoa Joe will physically perform as the character. The cast also includes Thomas Haden Church (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Richard Cabral, Tahj Vaughans, and Neve Campbell (Scream).

Fans eager for a first look at Twisted Metal can check back tomorrow for the teaser trailer. The series will premiere on Peacock on July 27 and consist of 10 half-hour-long episodes.

Twisted Metal is the latest video game to make the jump to television and the second TV adaptation of a first-party PlayStation game, following The Last of Us, which debuted on HBO in January 2023. Last year, Paramount+ debuted the television series adaptation of Halo, Xbox's flagship franchise, and Amazon has ordered a series based on PlayStation's God of War games. There have also been recent movie adaptations based on other popular video games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Uncharted (another PlayStation property), and, most recently, Nintendo's The Super Mario Bros.
