UPDATE: Amazon has removed the Citadel teaser trailer and delayed the release of the full trailer due to a deadly train accident in Greece. The trailer contained footage of an action scene aboard a train. "Out of respect for our international community and due to yesterday’s devastating breaking news from Greece, we are respectfully holding on sharing the official trailer for Citadel," said Amazon in a press release.
It looks as if Amazon is starting to ramp up promotion for its upcoming action series, Citadel, which stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Details on the show's global approach to storytelling were released yesterday, along with a few, first-look stills. However, it seems those images provided viewers with clues for how to watch a teaser trailer containing some explosive snippets of action footage.
A QR code in one of the images leads viewers to Instagram, where you can watch a teaser trailer. If you don't wish to decipher the looks, ActioNewz has you covered, as we've embedded the footage below.
Recently, the upcoming series has garnered closer attention as it reportedly went severely over budget due to creative changes according to The Hollywood Reporter. Citadel's ambitious, cross-continent storytelling approach is rumored to have cost Amazon north of $250 million.
Citadel is described as the "mothership" series that will spawn spinoffs set in Italy, Spain, India, and Mexico. Each spinoff is locally created, produced, and filmed in-region and stars local talent. Chopkra will also appear in the India spinoff.
Citadel will premiere its first 2 episodes on Amazon Prime Video on April 28. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly on Fridays through May 26.
Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency – tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people – was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows.
With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order.
Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love.
