Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced the start of production on their upcoming untitled Jack Ryan feature film, marking the return of four-time Primetime Emmy-nominee John Krasinski in the title role. The film will serve as a sequel to the acclaimed Jack Ryan series on Prime Video, continuing the character's story beyond the television format.
Andrew Bernstein has been tapped to direct, working from a screenplay co-written by Krasinski and Aaron Rabin. Bernstein is no stranger to the Jack Ryan universe, having directed three episodes in the show’s second season. Meanwhile, Rabin contributed five of the six episodes in the final season. Both previously served as executive producers on their respective seasons, making them well-versed in the series’ tone and narrative direction.
Alongside Krasinski (The Office; A Quiet Place; 13 Hours) as Jack Ryan, several key cast members will be reprising their roles. Wendell Pierce (The Wire; Suits; Superman) returns as James Greer, Michael Kelly (House of Cards; Dawn of the Dead; Secret Invasion) as Mike November, and Betty Gabriel (Get Out; Upgrade; Defending Jacob) as Elizabeth Wright.
New faces joining the supporting cast include Sienna Miller (American Sniper; The Loudest Voice; G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Max Beesley (The Outsider; Suits; Mad Dogs), Douglas Hodge (Joker; Penny Dreadful; Black Mirror), and JJ Feild (Captain America: The First Avenger; Turn: Washington’s Spies; Lost in Space). Details about their characters remain under wraps.
Krasinski is also producing the film through his company, Sunday Night Productions, alongside his co-founder Allyson Seeger and Andrew Form of Platinum Dunes. The project also features Carlton Cuse, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and John J. Kelly as executive producers.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan premiered on Prime Video in 2018 and ran for four seasons, spanning thirty episodes. While none of the seasons directly adapted Clancy’s novels, they all drew inspiration from his body of work. Plot details for the upcoming film remain undisclosed, but it’s expected to continue the series' tradition of crafting an original story rather than adapting one of Clancy’s books directly.
Additionally, a Ding Chavez spinoff starring Michael Peña has been in discussion, though there have been no significant updates in some time, leaving its development status uncertain.
It remains unclear whether the Jack Ryan film will receive a theatrical release or debut exclusively on streaming. However, given the scale of the project, some form of theatrical component is likely to be part of its rollout.
