The John Wick franchise has become one of Lionsgate's most profitable properties, so it's really no great surprise that the studio is now looking to expand on it in any way they can.
For example, we know that a TV series, The Continental, is coming to Peacock and Prime Video, with a 1970s setting and the focus on Ian McShane's Winston (Colin Woodell will take over the role for this prequel). That's not all, though, as it's now been confirmed that production on John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum spin-off, Ballerina, begins production this week.
That movie will see No Time to Die star Ana de Armas play the titular ballet dancer-turned-assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Len Wiseman (Underworld) will serve as director, and there's obviously a huge amount of excitement to see what de Armas brings to the table as what we're sure will be a badass new female action hero.
Interestingly, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer has also let slip that they're "fielding proposals" for a John Wick video game, expanding this franchise in yet another unexpected way.
While he wouldn't share much, the executive did say, "I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but we believe there is a big AAA game to be made out of ‘John Wick.’ We have been fielding proposals. We certainly are interested in moving that forward, but I don’t want to say anything more about that at this time."
There's one heckuva game to be made out of John Wick, and Keanu Reeves has some experience in that realm after previously starring in Cyberpunk 2077. Any video game is likely to be a long way off, but Lionsgate would be smart to make this a priority.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to be released on March 24, 2023, while a fifth movie has already been confirmed. As for Ballerina, we hope to have some news on that one soon.
