24 Producer Reveals The Last DIE HARD Movie Was Going To Be Crossover With Jack Bauer And John McClane

Veteran producer Jon Cassar has addressed the chances of a 24 revival, confirming that there were once talks for the last Die Hard movie to feature a meeting between Jack Bauer and John McClane...

24's quality definitely declined over time, and when the show reached its end, it almost came as a relief to fans. Jack Bauer's adventures became very hit-and-miss, and the belief is that Fox's unwillingness to kill Keifer Sutherland's CTU agent was a big part of why his fate was left up in the air in such an unsatisfying manner.

The last revival was a definite improvement, though the less said about that spinoff starring Corey Hawkins, the better. Over the years, we've continuously heard about plans for a movie or another series, but nothing seems to be taking shape. The 24 franchise has a tonne of potential and properly finishing Jack's story before moving on is a must.

Talking to Screen Rant, Jon Cassar, who was an executive producer and director on the show, addressed a possible 24 return and confirmed those rumours about a Die Hard crossover.

"They've been talking about it for years, it's a tough one. It's how do you come back and how do you come up with another story? I know they've tried many times, I've seen many scripts of different versions," Cassar explained. "There was even a movie version, there was one version that was supposed to be...the last Die Hard you saw was supposed to be a 24 and John McClane crossover."

"Everything has been thrown at the wall to see if they can come up with anything, but no one's really come up with enough of a story to make it happen. And then, it's the appetite of Fox, who owns it, so it's going to be them. If they get Kiefer back...he's got other projects going and then he's got his touring, so that's a tough one to work around."

"It could happen, it'd be great if it happened, everyone's always asking me and it's like, 'I'll know when you know, quite honestly, I'm the last guy that knows,'" he continued. "The whole thing happens and then they call me and say, 'Do you want to direct it?' So I'm gonna know the same time you do, you'll probably know before me. [Chuckles]"

Having Jack meet John McClane feels way too gimmicky, even if it does sound like a lot of fun on paper. Disney now owns the rights to 24, of course, so we'd like to think they're plotting something for Hulu and Disney+. Like Cassar, however, it appears we'll have to be patient when it comes to any news on that front.
