Jason Momoa is continuing his partnership with Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+) following the release of See and Chief of War.
In Nomad, his third major project with the streaming service, Momoa is plunging back into the world of outlaw motorcycle gangs by collaborating with television heavyweight Kurt Sutter, the mastermind behind the iconic FX drama Sons of Anarchy.
Like the majority of Sutter's previous work, Nomad will immerse viewers in the intense, violent subculture of a biker gang. However, this series moves the action away from the familiar Californian highways, transporting the story to the exotic and dangerous underworld of New Zealand's outlaw bikers.
Kurt Sutter's name alone is enough to guarantee a large audience. His reputation is built on creating compelling, character-driven dramas centered on morally gray worlds. Beyond the immense success of Sons of Anarchy, Sutter has a stellar track record, including the successful spin-off/sequel series Mayans M.C. and the ambitious 14th-century historical drama The Bastard Executioner. This consistency has fostered a strong loyalty among fans, many of whom confidently proclaim their intention to watch anything he creates.
Sutter was reportedly dismissed from Mayans M.C. following multiple complaints about his conduct and unprofessional on-set behavior, making this new series an apparent attempt at a fresh start.
Sutter and Collins are currently writing the pilot while Collins is attached as showrunner.
On a tangential note, Momoa recently completed work on his own passion project, the biker docuseries On the Roam for Warner Bros. Discovery, demonstrating his commitment to the culture that will underpin Nomad.
He also recently wrapped filming on two major studio films: the DC Universe feature Supergirl, where he is set to appear as the imposing anti-hero Lobo, and his rumored return for the highly anticipated Dune: Part Three.
His next project currently believed to be moving into active production is the video game adaptation, A Minecraft Movie 2.
The series promises a conflict-driven narrative, encapsulated by the official logline: “In the violent underworld of New Zealand’s outlaw bikers, a warrior torn between two lives, two callings, and two families must decide which path defines his true destiny.”
