The Duttons are no strangers to violence when it comes to protecting their family and their land. They do what they must to survive and defend themselves, even if it results in the death of others (and sometimes their own).
In the first teaser trailer for 1923, a prequel series to the popular Yellowstone series which just saw the premiere of its fourth season, it's made perfectly clear that violence has always haunted the family, long before we were first brought to the ranch in Yellowstone.
The upcoming spin-off "will explore the early twentieth century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home." At the center of it all is a new generation of Duttons led by Jacob and Cara Dutton, played by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.
Packed into this 30-second teaser trailer are scenes of gunfights, brawls, and both small and large-scale war. "Violence has always followed this family from the Scottish Highlands to the slums of Dublin, and it followed us here," the narrator says. "Where it doesn't follow, we hunt it down. We seek it."
Despite it being a teaser, we get a good feel for the many struggles the family will have to overcome. It's certainly an ominous tone, but one that should be quite familiar to fans of the Duttons, who don't back down from any fight.
Over the weekend, an in-depth Vanity Fair write-up offered more details about Jacob and Cara, who have been married for nearly four decades and have had no children. “There’s very little that sustains them other than themselves and the hard work and investment they put into their future and their family," detailed Ford. "It is a tough life, and it’s full of not just physical challenges but moral ones as well,"
We'll get to meet this new generation Dutton family when 1923 premieres on Sunday, December 18. The series will stream exclusively on Paramount+. Although it's a limited series, there are reports that it will run for two, 10-episode seasons.
In the meantime, the premiere of Yellowstone's fourth season debuted this week as the highest-rated show on cable with over 14 million total viewers. 1923 is the second prequel series to Yellowstone, following the recent critically acclaimed limited series 1883. Additionally, there are plans to continue expanding the franchise with 6666 which will take fans to the famed Four Sixes Ranch in Texas.
